Apex PHL, Iloilo City, partners in service - City Mayor

ILOILO City – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog hailed the strong public–private–partnership between the Association of Apex Clubs, Philippines and Iloilo City in helping his administration serve the community.

Mabilog cited the activities and remarkable contributions of Apex PHL in community service.

“I am touched that Apex Clubs makes the ideal of service the basis of all its enterprise and that its members develop a more intelligent and aggressive citizenry by example. We are, in fact, partners in public service and in building better communities,” Mabilog stressed.

Apex, which means the height of ambition, is a non-sectarian, apolitical, civic group composed of young and focused volunteers taking their responsibilities sincerely, seeks links to a broader society and promotes a real sense of fun and camaraderie.

“Like you, my job compels me to do public service to make our society a better and peaceful place to live in,” said the mayor, who was the guest speaker during the turnover ceremonies and induction of the association’s national officers last July 9, 2011.

He added: “We are doing great, and you may have noticed by now how Iloilo City is growing and developing.” He said investments are coming in the metropolis “in a steady flow.” “These investments also mean more and more Ilonggos with jobs and more food on the table.”

“More revenues mean better and improved public services deliveries,” he emphasized.

The chief executive said that this city “is moving forward, and it will only race faster towards its visions and goals if we continue to help one another.”

“I have no doubt your incoming officers are all fired up with the ideals that animate the Apex Clubs everywhere,” he said.

Mabilog lauded the tradition of the association in making the ideal of service a means of forming friendships, promoting understanding and responsible citizenship, and lending needy neighbors a ready hand.

“Leadership, community service, and character are the requirements for Club membership in which you have excelled. You have performed your traditions well and I praise and congratulate you,” he said.

Apex PHL boasts of its Bursary Program, a scholarship and flagship project of the association that has produced successful graduates, with careers in accountancy, nursing, law and commerce, among others.

The association has also helped various communities through its Work Party projects like the construction of the Iloilo City Nutrition Center, Western Visayas Medical Center – Pediatric Ward, Passi City Nutrition Center, and San Pablo City Nutrition Center.

For years, Apex PHL has initiated various community service endeavors like the feeding program for malnourished children, gift-giving program to indigent families, blood-letting activity, observation of International Coastal Clean-Up Day, Nutrition Month, and many more.

Iloilo City Vice Mayor Jose ‘Joe III’ Espinosa III, one of the distinguished members of Apex Club of Iloilo City, had also committed to donate three nebulizers to the Western Visayas Medical Center – Pediatric Ward, through the Association of Apex Clubs, Philippines.

During the ceremonies, Mabilog likewise installed Apexian Ramon F. M. Teruel as the association’s new National President together with Immediate Past President David Israel F. Sinay who turned over the responsibilities to the new leadership. (July 11, 2011)
